Default Please help! I'm a new hedgehog owner and idk what to do!

I got my hedgehog last week. It's too late to take him to a vet tonight. About three hours ago I was playing with him as noraal like I do every day to bond with him. I put him back in his cage so he could eat and go to sleep. He went in his little house and I went to the bathroom. I came out to see he was lying on the ground next to his food bowl. I looked at him for a few minutes and the only time he moves was when I moved my hand to see if he would move. He wasn't walking or anything. I took him put and put him on the floor, usually he starts to walk around and explore. He layed down there too and I got worried. I held him and he ate a piece of food and I felt his stomach. I believe he was trying to hibernate. I warmed him up and he seemed to be fine. He'd had no previous issued that I know of and the only issue is when I put him back in his cage he lays down outside and it's not in a ball, is's on his stomach. I'm continuing to warm him up but I don't know what to do or what's wrong with him. Please help!

Have you used tea tree oil? Thats poisonous to them.

Usually whenthey splat out on their belly it means they are too hot.
You will know if you have to warm him up because his belly will be chilly

What temperature is his cage? Do you have a heating set up and use a thermometer?

That seems to quick to be a hibernation attempt. How is he doing now?

Did he actually feel cold? Or were you just thinking it was "hibernation" and so you "warmed him up"?

Yeah, how is he doing now?

Not to negate any real issue(s)... but is it possible he was just... hanging out? How long did you watch him without interrupting him -- and/or him knowing you were there staring at him? Our hedgehog has literally stood/squatted in the corners of his cage for minutes -- without moving -- just staring into the corner. He'll also definitely do that if he had been running/exploring and then we make noise in the room and he realizes someone is there when he thought he was alone.

This is one of those situations where a camera in a cage is really helpful.. You're able to "spy" on them when they are acting natural -- not thinking anybody else is around.

He seems a lot better. His belly was cold yesterday but it did warm up, he's doing a lot better today but dang it was scary. I have a really bad track history with pets and so I researched the heck out of this one and I couldn't find anything to explain how he was. I watched him for about an hour and he was still sitting there for a while. He's doing a lot better today though. Thanks for your help
