I'm taking in a one year old male hedgehog from someone who is moving and can no longer have him. The photo I have of him I can tell he has very tattered ears. The person told me they've taken him to the vet and they said it was nothing to worry about, but I was curious how true that is and what I can do to help them. I've heard that coconut oil can help on the ears but I was hoping for more suggestions.

Attaching a photo of him.

Thanks for the help!

Tattered looking ears are typically just a buildup of gunk made up of dirt and dead skin. Coconut oil or vitamin e oil massaged on the ears will help loosen the gunk so you can get it off. Nothing to worry about

I rescued one from somebody who didn't take care of theirs, and her ears were missing pieces and dried out. First I bathed her, then I rubbed very light amounts of Aquaphor (I recently got a tattoo and had a lot left over) over the dried ear pieces and after a few days they were no longer dry. I don't know if that will help, but it helped little Nutmeg.
