I've recently written a post relating an possible eye infection and now I write to know if it could be WHS. Two weeks ago I've noticed my hedge's right eye's swollen. I've taken him to a second vet on friday who prescribed a treatment using two different drops (lubrificant and anti-inflammatory) and two other medicines (for pain and anti-inflammatory), he also gave an antibiotic injection. My hedge is not getting healed from the eye infection. He was eating less than normally and this night he's stopped. He's lost 35 g since friday (his initial weigh was 330 g). Yesterday I give one of the medicines and he just foamed after that. Since sunday I've noticed blood in his stools, which are sticky green or black, dry and with some red liquid (blood). Today he just can't close de hood. He is rubbing (occasionally) the right side of his face on the floor. I will take him to the vet again tomorrow, but I'm really concerned.

This is not WHS. WHS is a progressive disease that causes the gradual loss of muscle function. Your hedgehog needs to go back to the vet. He could have a tumour behind his eye that is putting pressure on it. Blood in the stool is very serious and needs to be checked out.

He's gone, I'm devastated. On tuesday I found him laid next to a lot of blood on his cage and took him to the vet. He'd been under observation since that moment and undergoing treatment for his eye, bleeding and weight loss. He got totally ok yesterday (eye and weight got almost normal and no more bleeding), he had some exams, new x rays and ultrasound was ok. Today I would take him to get back home, but this morning he started to wobble (the first time I'd seen this symptom), so I decided to keep him under observation in the vet. But now he called telling he is gone. The vet believes it was WHS but we will discover soon. Just in case someone who is searching for a similar case.
