Default How long is it safe for my hedgehog to be exposed to temps that are below 70 degrees?

I wanted to know how long it is safe for my hedgie to be taken out of the vivarium. I am a new hedgehog owner and he is still a baby. I don't want to risk hibernation.

Are you trying to take it outside? Below 70 degrees is a no. They should be in a stable temperature between 74-79 degrees.

It sounds like OP just means out of the cage for bonding time? If your house is less than 70F, I would definitely keep them snuggled up with you for bonding time, not down on the floor or anything. If you want to do exploration/playtime in a playpen, it'd probably be a good idea to get a space heater that can warm the room up a bit beforehand. They won't attempt hibernation from playtime in a cool space like that, but they can get chilled & develop a URI from cool temps.

Also if your house is that chilly, be very careful after baths - make sure he stays wrapped up warm & change the towel/blanket a few times as he dries off so you get the wet fabric away from him. Wouldn't hurt to use a space heater to warm the room up before a bath as well.
nikki and SquirtleSquirt like this.
