Default fleas? ticks?

Hello All! I recently got a new hedgehog, Daisy, and I would like to take her outside to play. I had a previous hedgie when I lived in Alaska (where no fleas or ticks exist). I am worried about her contracting fleas since we are now in a part of the country that has them. What do you all do? I was wondering if treating her with Revolution would prevent them or if that is a bad idea.
Thoughts?

Can't anyone help me with this? Do you all take your hedgies outside? I don't want her getting fleas and/or bringing them into the house, but I want her to enjoy the last bit of summer!

There is always a risk of them getting some type of bug from being outside. You could give a preventative dose of Revolution each month, or you could wait and see if she gets mites and treat afterward. Fleas are less likely than mites or ticks, depending on what the tick situation is like in your area. Usually the only time a hedgehog gets fleas is if there is a flea infestation in the house or on another pet in the household.

Thanks Nancy,
There WAS a flea infestation in this house when we moved in! I almost went insane! but they have been gone now for several months. That is why I don't want her to bring fleas into the house! (besides I don't want her getting fleas). I don't want to medicate her unnecessarily, but I worry that since the dog and cat who lived here before (moved out in February) had fleas that there might be fleas in the yard. My husband keeps the grass cut short so I don't think there is much risk of ticks...I have only gotten one since we moved down here and that was when I walked through tall grass...Anyway, I may risk it, we'll see.
Thanks again,
Susan H.
