Default Ongoing Uri...

Just came back from the vet. And Jez has been prescribed antibiotic CLAVAMOX® (amoxicillin trihydrate, clavulanate potassium) as well as a steriod Prednisolone. Anyone hear of these? My vet seems to consult with another vet in Miami about exotics particularly hedgies. ANYWAYS. I'm hoping this round of meds can do the trick for my little grump

I can't comment on the drugs on hedgehogs, but both are fairly commonly prescribed drugs in the pet world.

What is the duration of the treatment?
Was was the drug and duration of the previous treatment?

It may be time to get a culture done to see exactly which type of antibiotic is best if it's been ongoing.

The steriod is to be used until he no longer is weezing and blowing tiny bubbles. And for the antibiotics I believe it is til they're used up. The last treatment was baytril I don't remember the length. I specifally asked about the culture my vet said since he wasn't having any discharges so, they couldn't do the culture. Or so my vet told me. I'm curious how fast acting are these steriods? I gave him his dosage at 8:30 give or take. Checked on him to see how the little mans doing, seems like a lot of the snot bubbles were mia. Only a small amount could be seen. Not as nearly as much before the dosage!

Prednisone is very powerful. My experience has been that often you see results after a dose or two or you wont' see anything at all.

If there is snot bubbles, I would think there would be enough to get a swab for a culture. I know someone who had a swab taken from inside the nose. So I'm a bit surprised there.

Oh I know. Hopefully the meds fix it this time. If it continues on, you may want to see if you can find another vet who will at least try to get a sample for a culture. But we will keep our quills crossed here that the meds will fix your quilled buddy up and life will be good again.

Well got some good news. The snot bubble's have all vanished. I'm very relieved. Even caught jez wheeling around 12 he commonly would start later. Very glad the little guy is feeling better, can't wait to be done with these meds.
