Talking Is this a healthy weight?

I weighted Harold today for the first time (he's been home for two weeks, but today I bought the scale), he is around 275 grams. When I bought him they told me he was around 5 or 6 months so I'm not really sure. Is this a normal weight for a 6 month old hedgie. Also he is loosing a lot of hair, he doesn't has bold spots, but every time I take him out I see from 6 to 8 hairs in the floor or in my hands.

Well I'm not an expert and don't want to give advice about the hair loss. But the weight question I can answer because I have asked the same one I will tell you what I was told. Because hedgehogs are so very different when it comes to size and weight there is no normal weight. Some hedgehogs are small and stay that way. Some are massive and that is fine. As long as he can curl up in a complete ball he is not over weight. By that I mean you can't see his feet or face when he curls up. If you can he is a little chubby. If he is too skinny when you look down at him he will be this shape )( this is not good. Neither is this () you want a nice middle ground so this II. Hope this helped someone will be able to answer the hair loss question for you I'm sure

Is he losing quills or hair? If he's losing a bit of hair it may be due to dry skin.

( ) is still a fine shape :P Many hedgehogs are teardropped shaped, so the ( ) accounts for their round bum. The I I shaped hogs are the runner types(or the twinkies on stilts), and those are usually harder to keep weight on.

It's the ( ) ones that are obese. The ones with flopping fat rolls that their quilly skirt just doesn't cover.

I've been watching closely and he is starting to look like a )(.... What should I do, I'm really worried about his weight. He eats one tablespoon even though I give him two. He is on Perfect Fit Kitten. 41% protein 18% fat. Should I change and to what? I am also giving him around 2 mealworms a day. Should I give him more? He won't eat any fruit. He runs all the time, I think that's why he weights 260gr.

I already called my vet, she said to change his food to Mazuri which is specially for hedgehogs. I just changed it and it's the longest I've seen him in front of his plate. Hopefully he'll gain some weight.

Mazuri isn't good. Most hedgehog foods are worse than cat food. And the fat content is less than the kitten food you have.

Do a search(upper right corner) of the forum for mazuri and you'll fInd other threads that go into more detail on the mazuri. I'm on my phone so it's annoying to search then copy/paste all the links.
