Default scratching

Hi, can you help please? I have a 4 months old hedgie named Bony and he scratches himself quite frequently I think..Well I know everyone is scratching when they are itchy and I also know he has no parasites or mites or anything because we went to see the vet and he had his feces analysed but I can hear his leg kicking the side of his house as he scratches himself..Maybe 5 or 6 times a day and sometimes during night too..I just want to ask if this kinda frequency is normal or if it is an "you should be worried" type of thing? He is completely healthy, doesn´t have any allergic reaction, food is Royal Canin for indoor cats which he loves and the bedding is fleece..

PS - now it sounds pretty ridiculous when I read it as it seems it is normal but it made me worried the first time I noticed it..

I don't think it is ridiculous. Hopefully someone will be along to answer your question.

Haha, Brillo does the two foot dance (scratching) infrequently throughout the day. No mites- just itchy. Sounds like it's the same way with Bony. Haha, it's not ridiculous...as a hedgie owner, you will worry about things you never thought possible. I figure the scratching is just like any other animal...sometimes you just got an itch!

A side note: Mites are tested for via skin scrapes. I don't think mites would show up in a fecal test?

I thought so, but it is good to hear it from someone else so thank you.. And about that mites thing.. The vet tested all kinds of parasites - internal and external, that is why he tested feces aswell..

Sounds like he probably just has some dry skin, you can give him a bath and add a bit of olive oil to help keep the skin moisturized.
