Unhappy Is he sick?

So this is my first time posting anything on here and I'm really hoping to get some help. I have a hedgehog named Nigel, he is about 7 months old, I've had him since Feb. He had mites when I first got him but I quickly got rid of them and I haven't had any other health issues with him since.

About a week ago I noticed he was scooting around his cage on his side, at first I didn't think anything of it, I just thought he was in a playful mood. The next day I saw him doing it again, this worried me, I googled it and found out about WHS and got really scared. He hasn't done this since but when I let him out of the cage to walk around the living room and explore he kind of limps I guess you could say? Also, in the past week he has not been on his wheel at all. He usually runs on it all the time so this really is worrying me. Today I examined him closer while he was walking and it seems like he is standing on one of his front feet kind of funny, his nails are well trimmed so I know that's not the issue.

THEN, today I also discovered that he has mites. I know it's mites for sure because when I look at his skin closely I can see them moving around on him. I have heard of revolution to use on them but the vet would not give it to me unless I bring him in and pay the pet visit fee along with the skin scrap, ect. ect. So is there either a place to get it online (if so where) or another solution for his mites?

The mites are not as much of a worry to me as his limping and him not running on his wheel. He is still eating normal and drinking plenty of water.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!

I think you need to take him into the vet for a check-up. If he's been limping and not standing properly he needs to see he vet.

If you are positive he has mites, he needs to see a veterinarian to get treated. Ask for revolution.

The pushing himself on his side could be that he has an itch and it is his way of trying to scratch it. The limp, well a vet can look at his feet to see if there is anything causing it.

If he has injured his leg and has limp, then most likely that is why he is not running on his wheel.

Once you get him to a vet you will know for sure. The really bad mites combined with the limp..yep, a vet visit time.

Update on Nigel!

Took him to the vet, got revolution and the mites are gone! He didn't seem too concerned about his limp, however I just switched his bedding from shavings to fleece today and we both are already in love with it. Then, today he also started back up on his wheel, maybe the mties were bugging him and making him not want to run? Not sure but I'm just so glad to see him happy and back to normal! Thanks for all the help and suggestions everyone!!

Glad to hear Nigel is back to his old self! When I got Princess Sonic she was on shavings and I don't think she liked them much either. We both love her fleece bedding and it is so much easier to deal with !

As soon as I put him in there for the first time he was confused but I have strips of fleece in his house and he buried himself in them real fast and I think he just loves it! I already love not having shavings EVERYWHERE!

I HATE dealing with shavings too! I had them with my rabbit years ago and that was the only thing I hated about having her...
