Default Hedgehog lossing quills

So today I found about 12 quills in her cage from my adult hedgehog. The quills still have the little ball attach to them. Also her skin is not dry and she appears not to have a bald spot. I haven't change her diet and she is acting friendly as usual. I been observing her and she doesn't scratch herself. It seems she is lossing quills everyday. Any information on why this is happening will be very helpful. Thanks

You've mentioned that your hedgehog is an 'Adult' however do you have her exact age? I am no expert my any means, however I have browsed these forums quite a bit and I can give you what little information I know. I've read that some hedgehogs can still go through quilling at around 1 years old, so that could also be a possibility. What type of bedding are your using? Some beddings are known to harbor mites so changing the bedding to a fleece liner (unless you are already using them) might help.Though there are no bald spats, you could do a mite check just to give yourself a piece of mind. (However, this test is not exact)

To do this you can take a dark piece of fabric such as a t-shirt and rub your hedgehog with it and examine the flakes (if there are any) that fall onto the shirt. If they don't appear to be moving then the issue may not be mites.

I hope this information was helpful, and I hope your baby is doing fine.
