Default Vet in Northwest Florida and other questions

I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a vet in Northwest Florida (think just south of Alabama, around Pensacola). We got our hedgehog from Hood Petz (one of the starred breeders on the list here at Hedgehog Central) and she suggested Niceville Animal Clinic. Well, we called them, and they said that their exotic pets vet is only in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. My girlfriend talked to them and made sure they understood that she works from 6 AM to 3 PM every day, and they said that was fine, just come in on Tuesday or Thursday. So yesterday we went to see them and found out that not only was the exotic pet vet on vacation this week, he only works 7 AM to 11 AM those days. Now, this isn't going to work. I'm unemployed, so I'm free those days, but the girlfriend has the car. She has tomorrow off, but the vet is on vacation. I've tried looking everywhere last night and couldn't find any vet around here that said they take exotics or hedgehogs. Naturally I still need to call and check around, but a lot of them said cats and dogs only. I looked at the thread under Vet Listings for Florida, but there are only 2 posts in there and they're both across the entire state (think a 10+ hour drive).

On a related note, we wanted to take Highlander to the vet first because he's a mere couple weeks past weaning so we need to do a checkup and get to know the vet, but also because we both worry over things that might not even mean anything. He did seem sick about a week ago, not eating much, really lethargic, not moving around even at night, and we called the vet to find out info the next morning, but the day after he was back to normal. He started eating again, ran on his wheel all night. I'm not sure if he was actually sick and got over it or if he was just really tired. It was about 2-3 weeks after we brought him home. Now, we notice that when he looks left, we can see a sliver of what appears to be a fat deposit on the bottom left section of his right eye. and vice versa on his left eye if he looks right. I think it's just the tissue holding the eye, but my girlfriend freaked out about it, so I thought i would try to allay her fears.

For bedding, does anyone have a suggested material? We're using CareFresh right now, but I notice that it seems to just hold onto the smell, even after emptying the cage, cleaning it, and then replacing the bedding. We were going to get the white version of CareFresh so we could see immediately if he ever bleeds or has green poop, but I personally would also be open to other suggestions (his cage is right next to my computer, where I spend most of my time, so I smell it while she doesn't).
