Default Quilling

I too am 1st. Time hoggie owner. Elsea is a year old, her temperament is normally grouchy, I was asked to adopt her due to her temperament. I believe she is quilling, due to all my reading on subject. She has been a nasty girl! & she is losing quills. Not by handful, you get idea.any advice on her meanness? Boy! The hissing, getting really puffy.I'm at a loss. She's playing & eating fine, yet I get close and it's on lol.

Hedgehogs don't typically quill at 1 year. How long have you had her? Have you scheduled a vet visit for her yet? If not, it would be a good idea to do so & have her skin checked for mites & infections. Discomfort could contribute to her behavior. But if she has not been socialized much, that plus being new to you also accounts for most or all of her behavior. It will take time, patience, and lots of handling to make progress, and she may never be super friendly.
