Default Pickle has WHS

I haven't been online for ages and I'm sorry for that. It's become apparent that my darling Pickle is in early stages of WHS. To say I'm devastated is an understatement. So far she can still wobbly walk around her cage to eat and drink and still uses her toilet area. She doesn't appear to be using her wheel anymore. I've been massaging her legs and snuggling lots. I don't really know what else to say really, hoping for some advice I suppose. I know it's probably a death sentence for her, I'm just so so so sad for my little girl. She's so gentle and sweet, trusting me completely and now this terrible struggle for her. I just hope there isn't some way I could have prevented this and didn't know, diet perhaps???

Nothing could have change it. It's passed down from parents having it in lineage. Best you can do is enjoy the time you have left. How old is the hedgie

Has your vet ruled out other causes? There are other things such as ear infections, arthritis, stroke etc that can mimic WHS symptoms. I know you have probably checked her temperature but try upping it a degree or two F to see if it helps.

Is she tipping over? How long has she been showing symptoms?

There is nothing you could have done to prevent this. As Connors has said, WHS is inherited.

Worth a try is upping her temperature, perhaps even giving her a heating pad under her bed. You can start her on glucosamine which may help if there is some arthritis. My vet put Cinder on steroids for a while and it did seem to help a bit in her initial stages.

Hugs to you both.
