Default Still sick after Baytril?

So as some of you may know, my little Cambria has been sick.
Her first vet visit I was given a low-dose antibiotic (she was sneezing a lot so we wanted to make sure it wasn't the beginning of a URI) and she was treated for mites.
The second visit I brought her in because she was wheezing and blowing nose bubbles. I was given Baytril to treat her, which is stronger as we were sure that's what it was this time.

So here's my problem. She's eating, pooping, and drinking well enough, very well in fact, and she's active at night on her wheel (the CSBW I just got =]) and her 10 days of Baytril is up. But she's still got nose bubbles and some breathing problems. It's mostly when she's up and wandering or when I have her with me that she'll make noises that sound like they're coming from higher up, in the nose and the throat. Is it possible that she still has a URI or should I be worried about pneumonia? I was starting to think it was allergies, but nothing really has changed in her cage so... I don't know. The vet visits are racking up so should I just use up what Baytril is left or should I take her in again?

Her cage is still between 75 and 80 with a CHE, she's still on Purina Beyond One Chicken, and she's drinking a normal amount. When she runs she seems to get out of breath, so I don't know what to do. Any suggestions as to what's up? Is this just the tail end of her URI? I put a warm steam humidifier by her cage to see if that would help and it seems to have helped her a bit.

I'm not an expert, but I would be cautious and take her back to the vet. I know the bills can add up and become overwhelming at times, but since being on here I've read a lot about respiratory problems and those can do a number on little hedgies. If she's getting out of breath running and still blowing bubbles, it sounds like maybe the medicine hasn't gotten all of the infection and that maybe the vet may need to add another med or change the dosage or something. Maybe Nancy or one of the other more experienced people will be able to answer this better.

Good luck, I hope everything works out well!

You could even just call your vet first and see if there's anything you can do without another visit. Sometimes they just prolong the medicine and sometimes they may want to change the rx or examine her again.

I don't advise just prolonging the meds without consulting your vet. It's never a good idea to change the directions on a prescription without consulting your vet. It's something that you and your vet need to discuss.

But if explain your situation and that money is a problem, the vet might be more accommodating and give you some options to treat your little one.

She may need a longer dose. Phone the vet and see if you should continue. While waiting for the vet, don't skip the dose. An extra dose of baytril is not going to hurt her because sometimes the recommended time frame is 14 days. Your vet may just have you continue for 14 days but phone and be certain.

Usually there isn't a charge for a recheck of the same situation. Ask when you phone.
