Default Help! Hedgehog keeps trying to hibernate!

For the past few weeks this has been happening, I'll take out my hedgehog one day and she's fine, playful, happy, etc.. Then the next day I'll take her out and she'll be cold and in an extremely spiky ball. Once I put her on a heating pad for like 20 mins she snaps out of it and is back to normal.

The room temperature is always warm and never fluctuates and she has light from 6:30AM until around 10:30PM. I'm not sure what else I can do.

Help please!!

What temperature is her cage? It must not be warm enough for her. Bump it up 2-3 degrees F.

Around 72F, what's the best way to heat up the area? Would a reptile light on top of the cage work okay?

You want to bring it up to 75-78.
The best way to heat the cage IMO is a CHE set up. I'll go find a link to the thread with stuff about it.

This thread should point you in the right direction with how to bring up the temp.

Hedgie's cage is usually between 76 and 81F. I have two CHE lamps on top of her cage. They are both 100watts. One is attached to a programmeable thermostat which goes on when the temp drops between 77 and turns off above 80. The other is always plugged in. The room temp is about 68 or 69 degrees. It's cheaper to use a CHE lamp setup than using my electric baseboards, plus it's not too hot in the house. Hedgie seems quite content. Her belly is always nice and warm and is active at night. My only concern are power outages.

I would definately get yourself a CHE lamp setup and regulate her temp so that its between 77 and 80.

Good luck.
