Default bald spots??

My hedgie has a huge bald spot on his back and I'm worried about it.. we live in a rather remote area so we don't have vets who can take a look at him. He scratches alot and his skin seems very dry. Is there something I can do to prevent this? His quills do have the little balls at the end. I've attached a picture of the bald spot aswell.

Does he have mites? Has his behavior changed? Do you think his sick? If his itching and his skin is dry and hi going bald high chance of mites. Take the mites test let him roll around a black shirt for a while then take him off and look around the shirt dor any small bugs. If so obviously mites

I suspect he has mites, I've done the shirt test but nothing but his quills stay behind on the shirt. His behaviour has changed a bit he is more prone to hissing and clicking than he was when I first got him.
