What kind of shampoo do you use? Heavily scented ones aren't the best, with how sensitive hedgie noses are. A lot of people on here like to use Aveeno Oatmeal body wash, it has next to no smell and it's moisturizing.

You might also be bathing him a bit too much. It's recommended to only bath maybe twice a month, since water dries their skin out even more. You can do foot baths more often, if he gets poopy feet from his wheel, but you don't want to get him completely wet for those.

For dry skin, you can use flaxseed oil capsules (you can buy them in the pharmacy section of a store like Walmart). Just poke a hole in a capsule and put some oil on where he has flaky skin. You can also put some in his rinse water when you do give him baths, just be careful about using it too much. A lot of people also put it on their hedgehog's dry food a couple nights a week.

I just took Dexter to the vet for what sounds like the same thing, it looked like little goldenrod colored flecks of dead skin on top his pink skin under the quills. Vet prescribed Humilac - a spray conditioner for dry skin of cats and dogs. It's supposed to be soothing for the chapped skin. I applied it this afternoon, and already the skin looks more supple and nourished.

Also, consider your bedding? When I first got Dexter, he was on a corncob bedding, and had the skin flakes from head to tail. I switched him over to fleece liners, and within a week the flakes had localized to only his sides and head areas.

It may have run it's course completely on it's own had I given it more time, but I was really excited for my sweetum's first Vet appt.
