I've read that I should clean the cage every week or so, and it suggests ammonina....
Huh? Like, do I throw out the wood shavings, clean the cage floor with ammonina, clean the wheel with ammonina, ect ect, or do I keep the shavings, or is ammonina overkill, or ???
I have no idea about ammonina, most people here use a water/vinegar mix to clean to remove smells and clean up everything.
What kind of wood shavings? Ceder and non dried Pine Shavings are dangerous for hedgehogs breathing and can harbor mites.
Aspen is fairly safe but still has dust and potential for might issues, I just wanted to mention that since you posted about the shavings.
Usually you can spot clean the shavings out the urinated and poop areas and put the rest back in if you wanted to, I am mega OCD and the short period I had shavings I changed all of it each time
If you're using shavings you would want to throw them out if your doing a deep clean. I would spot clean daily and full clean once a week. You can use a vinegar/water mix or you can use a vinegar/hydrogen peroxide/water mix or just use Nature's Miracle for small pets
