Default Tongue injury

Hi there. My poor little hedgie had an accident last night and ended up covered in blood. We found a severed piece of his tongue in his cage. There was nothing in his cage that could have cause the damage, so I think he might have got some food caught in his mouth, began to choke or panic and bit his tongue. He is fed dried biscuit, chicken and cooked vegetables.

He is currently at the vets waiting to go under a general anaesthetic this afternoon. Can you tell me if your little hedgie has managed to lead a happy lifestyle post feeding tube? I'm worried about putting mine through so much trauma unnecessarily.

Thank you and take care xoxox

He is home now without a feeding tube but lots of painkillers and antibiotics! A piece of food lodged in the roof of his mouth and in his panic he chomped his tongue! He has sliced the tip off and a horizontal slice across about half his tongue so he is understandably feeling sore! Any recommendations for irresistible treats? He has a can of high calorie rescue food that I've mashed up with tiny pieces of chicken but he's not interested. He lets me give him his antibiotic which is very sweet so perhaps something sugary? Any and all advice welcome and appreciated!
