Default New owner, lighting question.

Hey guys, I just got my hedgehog from a local breeder a couple of days ago. After a few days of struggling I finally have a cage made instead of his rubbermaid container, and his heating set up is perfect and now I don't have to sleep in a 24 degree room. So, just wondering, he's in my bedroom and I spend most of my time home in there, will the TV bother him during the night? Sometimes he seems to come out while it's on, other times he doesn't. I currently have a lamp by his cage that I'll turn off around 9pm, would it be okay for me to have any other light in my room after that? If not I guess I'll have to find a way to block it out for him.

This is Lewis:

And his cage currently:

The tv (light and noise) and any light in the room at all will disrupt a hedgie at night. Some will not even come out to eat and drink. I would advise keeping the room as dark and quiet as possible to ensure your hedgie is coming out to eat, drink, and run on the wheel!

You could put a breathable cover over the cage at night to reduce the light that gets into the cage

One thing I wanted to add is that you should have a lid over your entire cage. Even with solid walls a hedgehog can still escape. What kind of litter do you have in the litter pan? it looks like kitty litter.

Alright ill definitely have to figure out a way to block the tv and computer light when I get home. Shouldn't be too hard. I don't mind keeping my room light off after 9 but I don't want to sit in the darkness for the other two hours. I usually have headphones in while on the computer so that's not a problem, and he doesn't seem to mind the tv noise at all as I usually have it on a low volume.

Also yes it is kitty litter, it's what the breeder reccomended for me to use, is there something different I should use? I find he poops a lot in his wheel and the kitty litter helps clean off his feet when he steps off of it.

I plan on roofing the whole cage off but I need to find a way to make a door large enough that I can still reach everything as it's fairly large.

Kitty litter isn't recommended because it can stick in the penile sheath and cause problems. Most people just put some paper towels in the litter pan. You can just change them out daily.
