Default QUESTION- BEDDING & DISHES

Hey everyone!

New to this hedgie world .
I have started reading some forums and learned a lot and got a lot of ideas, thanks so much for all your help and assistance!

I do however have one quick question (rather than searching through all the posts, I thought I could grab some quick replies)

**Just wondering what most of you use for your fleece bedding, as well as where you got it. And where you found your dishes for your little one, and have you had an concerns with them tipping the bowls?

Look forward to all your expert replies. Thanks
<3 Randi

Not an expert but a newbie reply. I got my fleece from various places. Fabric stores, blankets that were on sell (I cut the hem off so no threads sticking out). I use the heavy ceramic dishes from petsmart (water is a ferret dish, food is a reptile dish). I doubt he could tip them over, they are too heavy.

Hi and welcome!

For bedding I use a layer of fleece (bought at fabric stores) and on top of that a flannel blanket (occasionally I find flannel baby blankets that fit perfectly in my cages at the thrift store, so I keep an eye open for those.)

For dishes, I have some of the food bowls from Petco, and some small white ceramic crocs from Walmart. I have never had a problem with my girls tipping the bowls and Mustard usually rests one foot on the edge of the bowl while eating.

Snarf likes to 'get into his food'. He has this bowl - he parks his butt on the edge of it and noms away:

I use a smaller one for his water and think they're pretty untippable.

I get my fleece either from fabricland or i buy the cheapie fleece dog blankets from the dollarstore and remove the stitching from around the border. As for dishes, I bought the ergonomic ceramic dishes that are made by livingworld -- i loved the bright green color, but also that the hedgie doesn't have to put their paws in or on the edge to eat, which prevents tipping.

I got Pearl's ceramic bowls at Pestmart in the ferret aisle.

As for the fleece....LOL....I am not a person who sews, but decided I could save some money by making my own liners instead of ordering them. So I spent over $100 on a sewing machine and learned to make liners!!!

I got the fleece at a fabric store and put a layer of something in between (like a piece of an old cotton blanket, an old mattress pad, etc). Put the "pretty sides" of the fleece facing each other and the middle layer on top of one of them. Stitch around the outside leaving about 8" for an opening. Then you can turn it inside out (so now the pretty fleece is on the outside on both sides). Carefully stitch the little opening shut so it is completely closed. The good news is---if you don't sew a straight line, your hedgie doesn't care.

And if you don't want to sew at all, a lot of owners just cut the fleece to fit (wash and dry it first!)...I cut all of mine to twice the size of Snarf's home and fold them in half. Presto! Two layers!
