Default Ferret Nation or Critter Nation cage

Hello! I am new to this forum and hedgehog ownership. We dont have our hedgehog yet but I am making my list of supplies and looking at cages etc.

I was thinking I would get the double level Critter Nation cage and modify the ramp and balcony shelves for safety. I would separate the levels as well with only 1 critter in each.

I had read that the critter nation bars were closer together and there were other adjustments for smaller (thinner) creatures over and above the ferret nation cage. But I do like the ability to be able to add a third compartment in the possible event that someday I get really hooked on HH and want to get more.

My question is, can the ferret nation cage be used to house younger hedgehogs? So when I bring my girl home will she be safe in the cage (with mods as above) or will she be able to get through the bars and or get stuck in them?

Thanks for your help, I know I will have LOTS of questions before I buy a HH and after as well!

The FN is the way to go.

I'd go with the FN also. I have one and its great. You will want to make sure to modify it for safety. I put coroplast up but it would be easy to weave a place mat or plastic through the bars as another option. For my FN I took the solid tray from the bottom and used it for the top cage so that the hole was covered, I put the tray with the ladder hole in storage and got coroplast and attached it for the bottom of the bottom cage. I went about 10 inches on the walls when I did my bottom cage, if I ever get a chance to redo the top one I will put new 10" walls up in that too because I didn't go up quite as high when I did that one. I love the doors, it makes cleaning so nice and makes it easy to get your hedgehog out
