Default Plastic crates as cages?

Is it safe to use them as cages?

I would say yes -only- if your coroplast the sides with at least 8 inches talls, which would only leave 3 inches worth of 'vent' space at the top. Without it, I would be worried about a bored hedgie possibly climbing the sides, the openings on the side look like a perfect ladder for them to climb up on.

To add to what Puffers has said, those crates are kind of tiny, so you would need to probably connect at least 3 together with 4 inch PVC pipe to have a proper amount of living space for your hedgie.

Ditto Puffers, hedgehogs are escapes artists! I foresee a bored hedgie roaming around your house and sleeping somewhere in a dark corner

I was just asking because my mom kept on insisting that it should be a crate but i said they might escape

I agree with the coroplast because the edges in between the spaces tend be sharp and I have sliced my finger before on them, it could probably do damage if I hedgie climbed them.

How about large food grade plastic bins? You can get them at any department store. Got mine for only 400php
