Which kind of cage would you recommend for a hedgehog??

I am Getting a Hedgehog within the next month and need to find the perfect cage before I get the hedgie home! I will be a first time owner and need some advice!! I want one that will be a good size for it to run around and play in and have enough room for a wheel.
Any advice?

IMO, the best cage is a plastic bottomed wire topped rabbit cage. You want one with a large top opening door as well as a door at the front. Make sure there is no mesh on the floor. Marchioro makes a great cage. These cages are escape proof, safe from other pets and offer the greatest choice in heating options.

The Ferret Nation is a good cage for a hedgehog as well.

I agree, plastic bottomed wire topped cages are best. You'll need to buy the large/extra large size of whatever brand of cage that is.

Ferret Nation cages (which is what I use) are good but keep in mind they will need modification if you want to use the shelves.

It's too small, and you would have to modify the ramps and platforms so that they have walls because hedgies are prone to accidentally falling off.


I'd suggest a guinea pig/rabbit cage. I have one and it works fine. There are no extra levels, but there's plenty of space for him

I may upgrade to a C&C cage though

Unfortunately no, definitely not. I had that cage as a temporary rat cage, and I can say that is is too small for one rat (not that you should have only one rat) and given you wouldn't be able to use the shelves, there would be literally no room for the hedgie to move.

You want a cage with no shelves or lofts, that has preferably 4 square feet of floorspace or more. The large size of the like Shae shared would be good.

Something like this would be perfect, you just have to take out the shelf.

I know a few people that have had this cage and they did not really like it much. It's very flimsy.
