best cage option
Pequita's previous owner built her a cage out of a sterilite box which I've read is a decent alternative to a standard cage. However, I'm concerned that the top isn't a good thing for her. It's just the plastic top that came with the bin. Should I replace it with something grated? The only reason I ask is because she seems to be extremely sensitive to sound and I'm afraid all the plastic is amplifying everything. I understand hedgies are very timid anyhow but it just seems a little much even when I carefully put the lid back on and she rolls up.
Also, are pine shavings a bad idea (this is what the previous owner was using and gave me to use)? I'm seeing a lot about fleece which I had actually never heard of using before. It seems that fleece would only be good if the hedgie is litter trained...
Please, by all means, show me the error of any of my ways, I'm all ears

Re: best cage option
Here is a thread with lots of cage ideas;
Sterlite bins are used by many people on here. The bins do need to have holes drilled into them for proper ventilation. For the lid you can cut out the plastic and add some type of screen for added ventilation.
If you are going use shavings Aspen is alot better choice than pine.
