Is this sterilite container tall enough?

I just picked up this 110 quart Sterilite container:

It was the largest I could find locally. It has a height of 12 5/8 inches. Is that tall enough to keep my hedgie from crawling out? If not, I have seen a few pictures on here where people use the lid and cut the middle out.

Also, should I drill holes in the side? I've seen both with and without on here also.

Thanks!

I'm not an expert, but your hedgehog shouldn't be able to climb out of the bin. As for ventilation, you should drill lots of holes on the sides and top of the bin for good airflow. However, if you have a clamp lamp the heat might melt the plastic. In addition, I would like to add that the 110 qt sterilite bin might get a little tight after you put everything in. To fix this, just buy another bin and connect it using a pvc pipe if it seems too small. According to some posts I've read, hedgehogs need at least 2 sq. feet of space after you put in everything. I hope this information helps. Good luck!!

All cages should have a lid. Nancy had a just weaned baby climb out of a 13 inch tall bin. All that was in the bin was a liner, a hedgiebag and food and water dishes. If a baby can do it any hedgie can do it. Better to be safe than sorry.

You'll have to do some cutting for the wheel to pop out the top snugly, along with a lot of holes for ventilation.

Thanks for the replies! So based on a baby crawling out I will use the lid. Should the lid just have a lot of holes or should I cut out a large rectangular section and leave like a 4 " lip all around? I purchased the flying saucer wheel so it fits fine inside.

You should cut a hole in the lid and leave a lip, then you can use something like window screen to cover the hole and still allow ventilation.
