Hi all.
So have had Totoro in a 48in x 24in indoor hutch since I got her (2months) but decided she needs more room!! So have decided on a c&c, so far I have 2 packs of 20 sheet cube storage and have made a 4 sheet by 2 sheet with a 2x2 loft, I haven't got the correx yet as I'm trying to figure out if I should keep the old cage and join them with ramps /tunnels etc? I have the room and can keep it warm but is 27 square ft of cage too much? Or will the c&c be enough? Just wondered as most people seem to keep their hogs in MUCH smaller spaces. I've kept spiders before and no they prefer smaller spaces but I thought as she runs so much in the wheel that more exploring space would be better? Also we only have the one hog so like to spoil her ![]() Thanks for any ideas/advice etc. |

I'm sure that the more space, the better, as long there's heat for her, and she can easily access her wheel, food, water, etc.
.o. And if you can heat the entire space and keep it constant, then you're good. |

We have the heating at a good heat always and also will be using two che and a heatmat and thermostats so can't see the temperature being an issue. Hopefully she'll use all the space. Was thinking to line the way with treats and put her wheel in the new cage so she feels comfortable and more drawn to explore.

C&C cages are great. You can do all kinds of things with them. Sophie started with one 2 grid x 4 grid cage. That is a whole lot more space than most hedgies get, but really felt that more space would be better, so built a second 2 grid by 4 grid cage and connected with a sky bridge.
Two videos are linked below. The first is a short room tour that shows both cages. The video was made during the summer. The second video was made in part to show the setup when boosting heat for the cage, but mostly to discuss the special considerations needed for the second cage, which is placed along a 'window wall', which leaks quite a bit more cool air than you'd think. I live in a 1920s brick building, so the window wall poses special issues. It's an awesome setup. I keep the room at 65 degrees, and the CHEs have no problem boosting the cages to 75 degrees. As you'll see, I did need to tweak 'insulating' the cage on the window wall. I'm very pleased. Each cage has its own CHEs and thermostat as well as its own thermometer (one which also records high and low temperatures in addition to the current temperature). room-tour-12-8-31.mp4 http://youtu.be/eUbOEDiJGWs heating-window-wall-13-01-05.mp4 http://youtu.be/te55uneRFPA |
