Default 2 Hedgehogs...1 closet?

well Dallas lives in well my closet, in his cage of course, but i am going to be getting another hedgehog, a girl though, and i have no where to put her, could i just stack the cages? or would that mess around with the females hormones and such? ive seen cages stacked before but i dont know if theres different genders, so if anyone has any tips for this situation please give me some suggestions.

First off you would have to keep them in different rooms for quarantine. If your new hedgie has any sicknesses you don't want Dallas to catch anything. Secondly I think it really depends on the hedgies and their uhm...urges. When I first got Thalia, Squiggy would go crazy whenever he smelled her, but eventually he got over it, and I have her located under his C&C half. Dallas might not even notice she's there. But take whatever I say with a grain of salt as I'm sure someone else will come along with better advice

After quarantaine (and moving in a new appartment 9 months later) I've placed Litchi and Tangelo side by side without any problems. My only concern would be the lack of ventilation and light in a closet. If you have space issue I'd wait to get another one.

What kind of cage do you have? C&C would be ideal to stack and I don't see how you can stack any others. They should be fine above eachother but make sure they NEVER touch or even come near each other. Your new female might get crabby because she has to constantly ovulate...this is just a speculation, I really have no clue if she'd be crabby. I suggest contacting LizardGirl or Nancy for help.

I thought I read somewhere that it was previously thought that hedgehogs were induced ovulators but then was found that wasn't necessarily the case? At any rate, I stacked rabbit cages on top of each other, girl on top, boy on bottom and didn't have issues, but I have heard of people who have had males that will start singing, or either of them trying to escape to get to each other. Fortunately, I didn't have this problem but I imagine it would depend on the hedgehog.

i have a Super pet extra large rabbit cage and ive seen them stacked before, and i never actually close the doors on the closet because i love to show him off :3 so the light and ventilation is great in there and i dont have a space issue either because i have shelves that go upwards that hold all of Dallas's cage liners, blankets, bath stuff ( i wanna get him a rubber duck too XD ) food, and mediation( flax seed oil for the once in a while dry skin). i heard that having a female continually ovulating wasnt good for their health, is this true? if it is im not going to stress her like that and will put her in a different room, but it would be easier for the cages to be in the same place and such, but if its going to hurt her i wont.

You should be just fine having their cages next to each other, just don't let them come in contact outside of their cages. I'm glad you're so concerned over making sure you're giving them the best care!

Having stacked cages or having them nearby isn't enough for the female to go into ovulation - even having a male and female in a divided carrier for travel purposes isn't going to cause that. Whether the male gets a little antsy from smelling her nearby depends on the male, but he'll get used to it. You might find that they'll react (especially the male) if you handle one after the other without washing your hands.
