You can drill small holes, one for the nozzle and attachment holes to hold the bottle. That being said, I find small water dishes to be much more effective for giving hedgies water. They prefer their water as fresh as possible and a daily dish refresh is way easier than unmounting and remounting a bottle. Also, hedgie can easily chip their teeth on the nozzle. Finally there are some pretty awful stories out there about hedgie tongues getting stuck in the nozzle. All the way around, a small water dish is the way to go in my opinion. I have done both

Ok thank you DesireeM81!! I was just so worried she wouldn't know since she's used a water bottle for so long. But ok I will take it out right now

Okay that sounds great since he's still new to everything I'll definitely do a bowl instead. Any other common misconceptions I should look out for because my breeder seems to have given me a lot of misinformation.

Please make sure you have a good wheel!! No mesh wiring or slits anywhere on the wheel! It could cause some major foot injuries. A comfort wheel or a Carolina storm wheel would be best.

And also make sure you have a high quality food to give your hedgie after you run out of the food that the breeder gave you. There are tons of threads about that though so you can read them if you need to.

Your breeder may not be giving out misinformation, just the stuff that she or he has been using. It's very different when you have a herd of hedgehogs vs one. You can be a bit more picky. Breeders often use bottles because they don't have to worry about changing out bedding out of bottles or changing it every. Breeders also use bedding so that moms can burrow and make their nests. Things are done differently. Also they are feeding a lot more hedgies and often use a lower quality food to feed so many. (I'm not saying that this excuses them. I think that it really is the cheap way to do it but I'm not a breeder so who knows)

As far as misconceptions, just be aware that your new little guy may always be a cranky little butt. Two of mine are. I love them anyway. He may take a long time to come around as well. I can't think of anything else at the moment.
