Default Is it okay to line wheel with absorbent material?

I saw on Instagram someone had lined her hedgehogs wheel with paper towels to absorb the pee and help keep poopy boots from happening. Is this safe? I tried it and now Briars feet seem excessively dry. Could it be ammonia burns from the pee that soaked into the paper towels?

Personally I wouldn't bother. It seems like it'd be less of a hazard than other things you might line the wheel with, but if his feet were drier after you tried it, I wouldn't continue doing it. Not sure if it'd be from the urine or just from running on the paper towels though.

I can't figure out how it dried his feet up like that but I took the towels off. Thanks for the input

When I had Rose's wheel tilted back so she wouldn't slide off, the pee would stay on longer than before and her feet got super dry and peeled. She wasn't a massive wheeler back then so however little she was wheeling still caused some issues with her feet.
