Question How do you know when your hedgehog wants food/water?

Hi again! Just wondering, how do you know when your hedgehog wants food/water? Does it make a sound, or rolls in a ball or something? Kinda ASAP but I'm not rushing you. Thanks for your help

You should always have fresh food and water in there, for them to have when ever they want it.

You'll know when he or she goes to it's dishes and starts to eat or drink.

I refresh kibble and water every evening or as needed. Not hourly. Every evening and then, if they knock the water over or go kibble crazy they get refills in the morning.

You should refresh water at least once a day, or whenever your hedgie runs out.

For food, you should refresh it once a day, in the evening when your hedgie wakes up. You should give your hedgie enough that they have some food left over to snack on during the day, but you don't want that food going stale. (Some hedgehogs will overeat, but as a general rule they eat when they're hungry and shouldn't have their food restricted.) However, you don't want to give them TOO much extra food, or else you're going to be throwing away a lot in the evening and that will get expensive.

If you have your hedgehog out for long periods of time, you should offer them water and snacks every hour or two, but they should be fine. Just have a dish on the table nearby or something.

You'll learn your hedgehog's body language as you get to know your hedgie, too. Mine turns extra wriggly when she wants something. Normally if she's being wriggly because she wants to explore and I try to grab her, she'll huff at me ("DON'T TOUCH ME, I'M BUSY!"), but when she wants something, she doesn't huff, she just flails. ("Mommy, I'm thiiiirstyyyyyy! *flail*") That's how I know she's serious. :P

I make sure Rosie Mae's water bowl is always full and free of debris. For her food, I don't free-feed her like most of the owners on this forum because I just switched her to a new food mix and want to be able to tell exactly how much she's eating every night. Also, my little girl is a picky eater and wouldn't touch stale food if it was the last thing on earth . I can always tell when she's getting hungry because I hear her smacking her lips in her sleep, so I make sure to put out her food a few hours before her light turns off for the night.

They should ALWAYS have water. I have one very large water dish that I re-fill every morning and a water bottle in his other tank that I re-fill every other day. The water bottle is there for more of a back-up though, in case he knocks over his dish...or he stick his fleece in there that soaks up all the water.
