Please help.

Okay so where I live last week it was literally 90 degrees now at night its hitting the 30s! I was not prepard for this at all. I got my hedgies in the beginning of summer so I hadn't had to worry about the temperature but now its only like 65 in my room! and I'm so scared about my hedgies. I cover their cage with heavy blankets at night and i got a black light heat lamp thing for the pet store but it feel like it barley warms them up! I'm so worried my mom wont let me use a space heater because of the cost! What can I do???? I don't have a heating pad and I'm very worried its going to be very cold tonight:!::?::confused:

You need a CHE lamp with a thermostat. It only puts off heat, not light. And you need the thermostat so it won't over heat and stays safe. The forums here have great threads on CHEs. Read up a bit and then go explain to your mom what you need and why. Your hedgie needs the warmth to survive. And a CHE will be less expensive in the long run than the space heater.

ok, you buy something like this:

And you put it in something like this:

Attached to something like this:

And you read this thread:

Because it has absolutely the best information here on how to do it.
You will want a CHE set up because climate can be very finicky and the CHE is the absolute best way to ensure one or even two hedgehogs are always at a good temperature without breaking the bank by heating the entire house, or risking fire. Remember, the CHE needs to be affixed securely to the cage so it doesn't fall off and will always be able to warm your little hedgie.
If you use a heating pad, you may burn your little one, and that isn't fun. If you use the space heater to heat the whole room, your mom might get upset at the extra electricity bill and the room might be too warm for everyone that isn't a hedgehog. The CHE really is your best option. Not a heat lamp. Heat lamp is bad and will most likely overheat your hedgie and also put off way too much light.

Everything the above poster said

I ended up in a similar situation and panicked over heating. I was back and forth to the store more times then I want to remember and in the end, the CHE is the solution.

Agreed with Grace. Get a CHE set up as soon as you can. If you can, keep your room or house temperature to at least 70 until then. Talk to your mom and stress how important it is for the health of your hedgehogs. Mention that if they do get cold & attempt hibernation, they could easily get a URI. That requires a vet visit and medication. It'd be cheaper to keep the house/room heated to 70-73* for a night or two than to pay for the vet visit.

If your mom refuses to let you get a CHE set up or space heater for your hedgehogs, then for their safety, you need to find them a home that is able to keep them warm enough.

Er...just went to check & you have two hedgehogs, correct? Male and female? They're not in the same cage are they? They NEED to be in their own cages. And if you go with a CHE set up, then both cages will need their own lamp as well. You should be able to use one thermostat for both, if you get the 1000-watt Zilla thermostat (the one Grace linked), since it has three outlets to plug lamps into.

They are both in they're own cages :) Thanks everyone for the answers I take care of my hedge hogs and pay for everything so I can get the CHE thanks for the links when I went to the store I bought the wrong light bulb. I'm using a heater for the next few nights until I can get what I need. Thanks everyone SO MUCH
