Default Potential new hedgie owner w/ a few questions.

Im really interested in becoming a hedgie owner and have been doing alot of research before i commit myself; so i just have a few questions.

I know they poop a ton while running on there wheel and while taking the occasional bath. If i were to let them out in my room on the carpet to run around would they be pooping and peeing all the time there as well?

Second, what is the average cost in getting a efficient hedgie cage setup? I know you need bedding and fleece, thermometer, heat lamps, wheels etc...

Third, Ive been looking at getting a fly saucer wheel instead of the normal Carolina Storm wheel type. Are the saucer types any easier to clean? I like them better b/c to me with the saucer the hedgie wouldn't have poop and pee raining down on it while running, like in a normal type wheel.

I think thats it for now. Thanks in advance!!

1. Mine doesn't, but I am always ready for it! Priss prefers to poop in privacy so far.

2. A lot. Lamp, bulb and thermostat (must have!) $75. Cage $60 and up. Fleece liners (yay!), check the sale papers and buy a LOT. The more liners you have, laundry is less often. You also need food, dishes, wheel, igloo, toys, hedgie sacks are good... Totally worth the expenses!

3. I prefer the CSW even though I don't have one. My cage is too small. I have a comfort wheel and Priss loves it. Poop is pretty sticky so it doesn't rain on her, but she does run in it, which will happen in any wheel. Foot baths are simple.

I bought the flying saucer with the same thought process in mind and she hated it. It's a weird angle for running, in my opinion and I can see her sliding off easily. It was $20 wasted for me. (If you want to give it a try, I have one unused one cheap!)

Welcome!
