Default Comfort Wheel

Hello all!

I'm in search of a new wheel for Mr. Wilson. His current wheel is an 8.5 inch comfort wheel (yes I know that's way too small) and I'm thinking of getting the 12 inch model. I was considering making a bucket wheel but I honestly don't think I have the tools or handy-man skills to make one. Also I'm on a bit of a budget and his cage height won't allow a wheel taller than maybe 15 inches max. Does anyone have the 12" comfort wheel that can vouch for it?

* I'm also considering the Flying Saucer but I'm not sure if Mr. Wilson will actually use it and not be confused by the design.

According to the Amazon.com site, its 2.2 x 12.1 x 14 inches (lenght x width x height) so you'll have about an inch clearance.

My Loki came with one, they're an alright wheel and basically the only safe commercially made wheels for hedgehogs. Personally I didn't like it, its noisy as **** and hard to clean, I soaked it in a sink for half a day and still couldn't get all the crap off it (previous owner had cleaned it somewhat but not kept it spotless). And after I soaked it, it became even louder due to the simple shaft the wheel rotates on (plastic on plastic squeeeeeeaks).

I'd recommend if your budget will allow the Carolina Storm built by LarryT, its worth the money. Silent and most nights I just spray it down with a water bottle and wipe it clean. At the lowest setting (it has 6) its only 13 inches tall, highest its 15.5 inches.

You can have mine for the cost of the shipping! As Puffers315 said, they're "ok". We made ours pretty quiet by placing it on foam and by tying strips of fleece between the wheel and brace. They ARE a pain in the butt to clean.

Snarf uses his like crazy but often runs of the edge and has recently started using the fleece strips and brace to climb up the back of the wheel.

You're welcome to mine...I can ship it out as soon we get the CSW.

It depends on the individual Comfort wheel if it will fit 15". I have some that will, some that won't. I'd measure them in the store to be certain which one will.

I have the "Giant Comfort Wheel" and it's diameter is 12" but with the stand it's pretty close to 15". I can't say for sure if you could use it in a 15" height area of not...sorry...my cage has no 'roof'. We also have it sitting on a thin strip of foam but that would only make a difference of 1/4". Sorry I can't be more specific..

Thanks for the advice! I Think I might be able to adapt the 12" comfort wheel somehow by zip tying the stand on it's side horizontally allowing the wheel to be lowered. The comfort wheel I have now really isn't too bad on cleaning, but I'm probably just used to the cleaning routine and Mr. Wilson tends to poop elsewhere (on his blankets and make a mess lol)

@ MissC
That'd be great! Just send me a message about the shipping details and we can set it up. Also not sure what CSW is

The CSW is a Carolina Storm Wheel viewtopic.php?f=20&t=4844&start=0
MissC is from Canada so shipping may be more than what you can buy a comfort wheel for.

Glad you found a wheel!

Larry's probably right about shipping costs...if you're ever interested, just drop me a note with your Zip Code and I can confirm the amount.

Have fun!
