Hey Everyone!
I know there is a strict rule between having 2 males live together and I dont plan on ever doing that. But my roommates have a male of their own and intense curiosity has made me wonder if letting them around one another is a possibly harmful idea. The idea of the two of them sort of sniffing at each other seems cute, but im not dumb and dont want to hurt my animals. I am still playing the new daddy role and Im slightly overprotective over Flecko. Flecko just turned 4 months old and Rocko (my roommates' hedgehog) is a year old and substantially larger. |

Especially since there's a size difference, I'd say no. Hedgehogs, as a general rule, don't enjoy each other's company, so they aren't missing out. There is a very good chance that one or both of them could be aggressive and they can move faster than you'd think. Your little guy could very easily get hurt. Best not to risk it. It's a shame since the only thing cuter than a hedgie is two hedgies!

Tonight I decided to see how my two males got along. They were housed together when I got them, but have had no contact with each other since. I was a little nervous, but to my surprise they had what seemed like some little greeting ritual. They both went side by side facing the tail end on each other, and they groomed each other. Thom would lick Guy's nub and Guy would lick Thom's side and quills. Then they fell asleep right next to each other. When they were doing it there were some squeaks from one or both of them but they didn't fight at all.
I'm not going to house them together, obviously, but they might have more playdates if things go on like this. Though I wouldn't suggest everyone try it. |
