Default My hedgehog has marker on his back

Hi guys, first time here and first post.

The store I bought him from said they marked him with a red marker as a way to identify him as reserved for a customer. That customer never bought him so I ended up choosing him. The lady at the store said that the marker will come off but I have tried wiping him with a damp cloth and it doesn't seem to do anything. Is it possible that his quills are permanently dyed?

Here is a link to a picture of him where you can see the marker on his back.

Your little guy is probably not permanently dyed. But if he is, it's okay. I wouldn't worry about it. I'd just reframe the situation and enjoy him: What you have is a very rare and very special hedgehog -- a red-tufted pinto.

Seriously, Satin had a blue mark on her back for awhile after she first came home. It came off over a few weeks. Now, she sports orangey-yellow spots from anointing with various babyfoods. It stains her quills for a few weeks... but eventually washes out.

Your little guy is very cute! While it is likely the quills are stained, eventually he will shed them and grow new ones in their place, so I wouldn't worry. The color won't hurt him in any way.

Thanks guys! Such a great and responsive community here. I don't mind the spot, but if it goes away eventually, I'll be fine with that too. Thanks again for the replies.

I recieved my ungrateful ball of fury on Sunday from a great breeder, and he had green marked on his back for indentification as well.

I gave him a bath today, and the majority of it came off. I'm going to bathe him again in a few days to get the rest. The breeder promised it would come off quickly, and I have no reason to doubt her wisdom. I'm sure the pet store used the same kind of wash away mark.
