Question Water bottles

How big does a hedgehog water bottle need to be? Like, is a 16 Oz ok?

I'm getting my girl in a couple of weeks and I am trying to get everything perfect. Thanks!

I don't think ounces really matter as long as you watch that it is filled up. I got a medium sized one when I picked mine out, but I can't recall how many ounces it was.

Water bottles aren't recommended by most people. They can cause problems like chipped and broken teeth, hedgies have gotten their tongues stuck in them and most hedgehogs drink more water when given a bowl. Hedgehog's necks aren't designed to bend back the way a rat or hamster's neck does so it makes it harder for them to use a water bottle.

As pointed out by nikki, there are certain drawbacks and health risks. The only time that you should probably use a water bottle is if you're too sick to care for your hedgie or if you're on a few days out for vacation.

Water bottles should be cleaned every day with a bottle brush. Leaving water in a water bottle for a couple of days can cause bacteria and algae to grow and make your hedgie sick.
