Default Breeder didn't give me food - help!

Long story short, the breeder "forgot" to give me the food her hedgies have been on (Purina Chicken & Rice) when I picked my baby up (it was about two hours ago, I just brought her home). Unfortunately it's snowing cats and dogs outside, and I can't get to the store to buy a bag until tomorrow or maybe even the day after if they don't plow my driveway.

I do have a bag of Blue Buffalo that I was planning on switching her to (slowly, of course), but is there anything else I can feed her for tonight, like any veggies or anything? Or is it okay to not feed her for the first night?

Thanks so much!

I would put something out for her, at least. I think personally I'd go ahead and put out the Blue Buffalo and see if she eats it. Yeah, direct switches aren't really preferred, but if it's a choice between that and no food, it's probably the better choice. The worst that can happen is a) her refusing to eat it, which, at least she has the choice, or b) her eating it and getting some green poop for a couple days.

If you can get out tomorrow at all (or even if a friend gets plowed out & can pick you up for a store run, maybe?), when you go to pick up a bag of the breeder's food, stop by the pharmacy and pick up some acidophilus (or if you only want to do one stop, the pet store should have small mammal Bene-Bac). Either one are fine to use, they're probiotics that can help with the GI irritation that might come from having a suddenly-different food for a couple days. Good luck! (And stay safe driving!)

Thank you thank you thank you for the fast reply! I will put out some BB now.

When I pick up the acidophilus, should I just break the tablet open and sprinkle it on her food? Or only half the tablet?

Probably just half the tablet to start with, I think? I just kind of followed Kalandra's suggestion when I used it with Lily of "a good-sized pinch" of powder on the food. And if you're starting it right after the new food intro, it seems more like a preventative-thing than trying to re-establish gut flora completely after a round of antibiotics or something like that, so it's not too serious!

Good news - I was able to run to the store to get a bag of the Purina! Thanks so much for the suggestions though I will definitely still be grabbing a bottle of the acidophilus.
