Default Hibernation

Hi, in ours french site web, some person ask question about hibernation, but something always persist. Why africain hedgehogs can't hibernate when they are domesticate? Is it, because of a lack of calories and lipids? Is it because of a old faculty lost? Why prefesional don't advise to hibernate?

I want to know this to be able to answer question about it!

Thanks!

They still have the instinct but not the fat layer to be able to hibernate successfully.

What I want to know is why I have yet to hear of a boy hibernating. I have only heard of girls doing it.

http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums...9&postcount=46 Boys do too, but it certainly seems to be far more girls than boys that do.

Both can attempt hibernation but it seems like more females attempt it than do males.

Based on three hedgehog-related forums, two mail lists, and several blogs which I regularly read, I also recall reading at least a few other threads mentioning a male hedgie attempting hibernation. I too was under the impression that hibernation attempts were more of less unique to female hedgies at first, so I was surprised to come upon a thread about a male hedgie attempting to hibernate. Subsequently I found more threads reporting hibernation attempted by male hedgehogs, but definitely there seem to be more females hedgies prone to hibernation attempts than male.

Maybe it's like the infamous "The Hedgie Scream of Death", which more female hedgies seem to do it than male hedgies?
