Default Smelly Hedgie!

My hedgehog has just recently finished with a "date". My room reeks of urine. I know hedgies are supposed to be low-odor pets but my mom walks by my room and continuously reminds me of the smell. Does it smell because my hedgie has been musking? I clean his cage every few days and he eats Hedgehog Complete by Exotic Nutrition. What can I do?

You could try putting some baking soda by the cage to absorb smell. I have also read about some people that found a scentless deodorizer of some sort. Maybe someone can tell you more about that.

I would also highly recommend you change foods, or at least add some high quality cat foods to your mix. Hedgehog foods are not actually ideal for hedgehogs, and some are actually BAD for them. Hedgehog Complete, I don't think, is the worst food out there but it's certainly not the best.

Also, are you a breeder??

Some hedgehogs have stronger-smelling urine. Has his urine always smelled this strongly, or is it more recent? If it's not, you just might need to clean the cage more often to help with the smell. Air purifiers can help as well. If it's not, there might be something else going on, so watch for any other signs that something might be up (dark urine, hard time peeing, etc.)

I would also check into changing his food - hedgehog foods have pretty crappy ingredients and most aren't very nutritious. A mix of two or more good quality cat foods would be a lot healthier for him. There's some stickies in the nutrition section with more info.
