I will be moving from Louisiana to Oregon in 3 weeks but I have to go through states that hedgehogs are illegal in will they take them away if I get caught with them even if I will be just passing though. Also It will be about a 4-5 day trip what is the best thing to carry them in?

Cali does have checkpoints, but for fruit...you can still take her just dont have her out in the open at the checkpoints, I went to visit family in Cali, and took both my hedgies with no problem at all..
you dont even notice a hedige to be honest, its not like a large dog barking at a guard |

If you decide to take them with you, the safest way to transport them is in hard-sided cat carriers. You can lay down liners and give them an extra to sleep in. Keep the heat up in the car if possible, you may need to use hand warmers to keep warm. You can offer food/water at rest stops, but don't be concerned if they don't want anything during the day. At night make sure they have food and water available all the time. For exercise, if you can set up a safe place to put their wheels to run for a while, that would be best, and you can put the food/water in with them. If you are driving through the night, though, that would be more difficult. Don't feel too bad if you can't let them out to run every night. They will probably be curious what is going on and just pace the carrier.
Good luck, and I hope you like Oregon! I live in Salem. Maybe you'll have time to come visit sometime. ![]()

Georgia and PA are also illegal states, but they will not confiscate if you're just driving through. They only require that the hedgie stay in the carrier during the trip through. To be safe, I would get a certificate of health from a vet before I left in case there was a problem at a stop. I doubt there will be, though. I would also call the department of fish and game for those states and find out procedures (like the stay-in-carrier thing).
