Juliet escaped from her cage while I was away from home. When I came back yesterday I found her under a jacket on my floor.
She's now extremely grumpy and will not eat her cat food. She will eat meal worms but not as much as before. I have since put a top on her C&C cage so it won't happen again, but I'm extremely worried about her. I don't think she's had much to drink either and she hasn't pooped since I came home yesterday. Plus she's kind of lazier than normal and just wants to be left alone to sleep. Can someone please give me some advice? |

She could just be upset. Give her another day or two of her original consistent schedule (feeding, hours of darkness, etc.) and she may settle in. If she doesn't get any better, head to the vet to see if she is hiding a hurt.

Do you know how long she was out of her cage and without food/water? If it was only a short while, she might just still be upset about the adventure and happy to be home, so you could give her a day or so to calm back down and see if she eats. If she was without food/water for longer than a day, I would at least maybe syringe her some water, and if she continues not to eat, try syringe-feeding her a bit this evening. How cool is the room? I know it's summer in most places, but she still might have gotten too cool. Make sure she's warm and keep an eye out for any other signs of illness or continued not eating/drinking. I'm guessing most likely though, she's just tired from the adventure and wants to rest up in bed for awhile.

I ended up giving her a cool bath to see if she was overheated and as soon as she got out of the bath she was back to normal! (:
When I dried her off and put her back in her cage she drank her water until she was done with it, and tipped it over, and then she ate some cat food. I'm not exactly sure what happened with her, but she's back to my sweetheart now. (: |

She's a cutie! Glad to hear she seems back to her old self now...but I would definitely still keep a close eye on her. They tend to hide injuries well and a grumpy hedgie may be the best sign she would give you of that.
Hopefully she's just glad to be back safe in her home...good luck! |
