Default Hedgehog Inquiry- odd one

I got an e-mail from someone a couple of days ago inquiring about hedgehogs,oy!

"Hi,
I’m looking to buy a hedgehog but right now I’m just trying to find prices and I would only be getting one after the snow is melted and were sure were not going to flood. We don’t live in Winnipeg but my mom does go in at least once a week. If I get an hedgehog that means my sister will get a rat and I was wondering if they’d get along. I heard that rats are very sociable but hedgehogs are more independent cause I think it depends on the hedgehogs personality and how it was raised. I understand that if you got a hedgehog and had it for a year and then introduced another animal to it, it might not get along but if I introduced them when there both babies would that work? Would they be able to live in the same cage? What are your prices of hedgehogs and was mostly looking at cinnamon or snowflake color of hedgehog. Thanks"

Sounds like a very young person who didn't do their homework. His mom should know better than getting impulse buys or "fad" animals.

They do sound very young and very impulsive. And I doubt the parents care or do the research. so...I see it as two options. Educate them and hopefully talk them out of it, but at least if they get one they can take care of it. OR...they will get one elsewhere and not be able to take care of it.

And I guess sharing one cage with a rat can be dangerous for a hedgie...
Well, I thought only we do have many such irresponsible pet owners in this country, but it seems now that they are everywhere. That's sad....
