Default just lookin for an answer.

So reading all the post on here i was wondering. Why is it that your suppose to take the wheel out of a prego hedgehog cage?

You want the mother to spend all of her time on her kids, so you take out all outside distractions.

She also may run with one on the wheel or in her mouth which is obviously dangerous.

The wheel is removed about 5-7 days before the female is due, so that when the babies are born, she isn't distracted from caring for them, and they can't be injured by her carrying them in her mouth while wheeling. For the rest of her pregnancy there's no reason a female shouldn't have a wheel.

I agree with what everyone above me have said.

Also, when we start handling babies more often, we always remove mom from the nest before we touch the babies, mostly after she has done her eating and drinking. We will set up a wheel on the floor and let her run around and get exercise so she has some fun while we socialize her hoglets. That way she gets distracted and enjoys the enrichment. We find this very benofficial with ours moms they sure enjoy the down time!
