Default Hedgehog on Kijiji with improper wheel

I was on Kijiji looking for hedgie-related things in general, and saw someone on there selling one for $200. No idea of how old she is, but from the photo I'm guessing she's older and not a baby. But anyways, in the description they list everything she comes with - cage, wheel, food dish, water dish, house, blanket, toys, etc., and I saw they had a photo of the cage so I clicked on it and this was the photo:

And of course, the first thing I noticed was the mesh wheel. That, and the fact that it looks quite small. I'm assuming that there's a good chance the people they sell her to won't know that mesh wheels aren't good for a hedgie to use, so what I'm posting here wondering about is... should I message them to mention it so that they know? It's not really my place to tell them, but... it's also not good for the hedgie to be running on that, so I'm conflicted here. What do you guys think?

(... There's a small part of me that wants to make an offer on her, maybe see if they'd be willing to sell her at a lower price without the cage/accessories/etc., but... I don't know how my dad would feel about having a second hedgie, really. :P)

Default Re: Hedgehog on Kijiji with improper wheel

I message people all the time. They can ignore me if they want, they can get mad, but they often take my advice. Or at least say they will.

Phrase it carefully. I almost always say I made the exact same mistake and wanted to pass on what happened. It makes it sound less lecturey than "I know lots about this and you don't" sort of messages.

Last week I emailed two people on Craigslist. One who showed their dog wearing a choke collar in the crate, the other a snake they said was really lazy and boring and so they wanted to trade it.

Doggy owners hadn't known dogs could hang themselves with that kind of collar. I said I'd found my dog nearly dead, which wasnt true. I've known since 12 not to leave choke chains on.

Snake owners didnt have a heater on the snake, but said they thought the snake should adjust, and didnt want to spend the money, so I sent the add to a snake rescuer. I told them that I got a snake without heat, but once I added it, the snake woke up. I've never owned a snake before, just pet sat.

He told the owner when they're ready to give him the snake for free, to call. They called last night.

It's worth the effort to try and email. You can also say you may be interested and ask for more info. You can always say no if your dad doesn't like it.
