A test isn't required, and can often be false negative anyway. Revolution does have to be prescribed by a vet, but if you call and say it's for a kitten, you should be able to get some without an appointment. Some vets will insist on an appointment and inspection if they know it's for a hedgehog. Kitten, cat, or puppy revolution are what to use, they're all the same concentration. The dose is 1-2 drops per 400g of body weight. Revolution isn't dose sensitive, so it doesn't have to be exact.

I'm with SouthernSweet. A quick google search brings up a lot of sites that sell it.

Those sites require a prescription. I just pulled up a few of them to double check - they mention "Rx required", etc. That includes PetFoodDirect, which has several reviews for contacting vets quickly for prescription confirmation.
The sites that advertise Revolution without a prescription I would be wary of. Generally they're not going to be credible ones, more the "buy at your own risk" kind of online purchase. Can't comment about availability in Canada, but in the US a prescription is required.

As far as I know in Ontario you don't need a prescription. I bought it at the vets office. It's recommended as a preventative treatment for fleas and mites, cats and dogs should be treated with it monthly so you should just be able to go to the vet and tell them you ran out or you need it for a new kitten and your regular vet ran out or you'll make an appointment later etc. My cat was at a new vet during an emergency and I didn't even have to talk to the vet about the revolution I just asked the secretary for it and she sold it to me. I don't know if it made a difference that my cat was a patient there but the vet certainly didn't give me a prescription for it.
