Default Quill lengths

Hello,

I recently welcomed two hedgies into my life and I have a question. This is probably stupid, but do hedgehogs have different quill lengths than other hedgehogs? My albino female, Sputnik, is just under 3 months and has long quills, and my salt and pepper male, Yozhik, is just over 3 months and has shorter quills than Sputnik. They are both still quilling, but Sputnik's adult quills are almost twice as long as Yozhik's! Do certain colored hedgehogs have longer quills than others or is it an individual thing? Sorry this question is so silly, but I'm curious and haven't found any answers anywhere. Thanks!

probably just an individual thing, i never really noticed anything about it before.

also about your male, are you sure hes salt and pepper? its supposed to be really hard to find, so i doubt they would sell him if he was really a slat and pepper?? this is just what i heard from reading some breeders posts.

He was labeled a salt and pepper, which I had heard was the most common color, but apparently that's false and the breeder I bought them from is a liar. I'm not really sure what color he is now and frankly it's not that important to me - I just love them both no matter what their color is! Through the quilling process he has gotten a few solid white quills over his entire body so he might be a snowflake. I have no idea haha! Thanks for responding!

A lot of small breeders, pet stores, etc, use "salt and pepper" to refer to any dark-range hedgehog.

Please just make sure you keep them housed separately, and that includes no "playtime". And welcome to the forum!

Oh, don't worry! I want no babies of any kind haha! They both have large separate cages, carriers, playtimes, etc.

Thanks!
