Default Vaccinating Hedgehogs

My dogs annual vaccinations are coming up in a few months and I’m already starting to save up for it (it’s fluffing expensive)

While I thought about it, I started to wonder, can you vaccinate hedgehogs too? Against rabies and such? And are there health benefits? Would it be a good idea to look into? What can they be vaccinated against?

This just occurred to me once my mom read that hedgehogs can get rabies. So I was just curious if you can actually vaccinate them against it.

The chances of a pet hedgehog getting rabies in the house in a pen are very, very slim.It is transmitted by fluids ,normally through a bite from an infected animal. Unless you have rabid skunks running rampit through the house I would not even concider it!

😂 true true
But why not even consider it? Is there health problems that come with it?

A reaction to the vaccine would be my biggest concern.

Hedgehogs do not require annual shots/vaccines like some other species. Unless something changes, there are no vaccines approved for use with hedgehogs.

Ok, thank you! I was worried for a sec that my hog might require annual vaccines and I haven’t been giving them to him.
