Default Lost hedgehog... please help

Hi there. I am new here so I dont know how this works. I live in South Africa and my hedgehog managed to escape on Saturday night. I have spent the whole of yesterday and today looking for him. The doors were open on Saturday so the dog can come and go. I have looked in and under all the cupboards, under the bed and by all the appliances in the house. I have looked in all the dark places I can think of.

I have also put food and water bowls all over the house to try and entice him out but I have not seen any change (I counted the pellets).

My worry is that he got outside. My yard is walled off but the gate is easy for him to escape. Also there is a large field next to my house.

Any suggestions please... he is my baby boy and I'll be heartbroken if I dont find him and something happens to him.

Ria mentioned this in a different post a while ago, but try spreading some flour on your hard floors and after a while, check and see if there’s little paw print tracks going through the flour. That’s one suggestion. But don’t underestimate the size of a hedgehog; they sure can hide in the smallest of nooks and crannies.

The flour helps you narrow it down to one room then you can shut that door and search that room.

Have you turned the house heating up to make sure your house is warm enough if he is still in there then he wont hibernate.

Have you got stairs? This may sound weird but they can actually go up and down stairs (if they try hard enough and aren't mega steep)

Also common places I know of are under fridges, under or inside sofas and chairs, inside people clothes draws. They can get anywhere! Think places you think impossible and check them!

If you fear he did go outside start checking hidey places in your garden too! Every possible hidey place there is!
If you do find him outside and he is fine ect. Get him to a vet to make sure/get rid of parasites incase he ate anything and picked one up.

The last lost hedgie on here was found crawlled in a tiny hole in the bottom of a sofa and hid there for a few days. They can make themselves very small and get in some realy small places.
