Default Temperature Question

Hi I’m a first time hedgie owner and I’m a bit confused about what to use for his heating. Our house is usually around 74-75 so I just bought a CHE lamp with a dimmer and it came with a thermometer. I figured this would be fine but I woke up this morning and our house was kinda chilly since we literally went from over 90 outside the other day to only in the 60’s today. His thermometer said it was right at 74 but now I’m worried about the temperature dropping while I’m asleep or not home. Do I have to replace my CHE lamp with a different one that has a thermostat connected already or is there a thermostat I can buy that will somehow attach to my current lamp. I have the Flukers CHE clamp lamp with attached dimmer and a 100W bulb. I just don’t want my little man to turn into a popsicle overnight while I’m sleeping so any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can definitely buy a separate thermostat and it’s pretty cheap! I’m assuming you’re in the US since we’re talking about this ridiculous weather, so check out chewy.com. They’ve got all the supplies you might need for a great price. Generally, African Pygmy hedgehogs thrive in a constant 72-80. I use that gap because some do adjust and even do well in the lower or extreme, but a good average would be around 76. House temps don’t usually provide a good enough gauge as to what the hedgie enclosure is, so I’d encourage getting the thermostat so you don’t have to worry about turning it on/off! Depending on the length of his enclosure, two lamps might be beneficial. I have two for Christina’s house cause it’s a longer enclosure than it is wide and two heats hers more evenly. Play around with what you have to see what works for you, though!
